Volunteer With Us

Volunteers are vital to the work we do and contribute to NHPPA making a difference every day. Your dedication and efforts will have an immense impact across Canada.

To achieve our goals, we a recruiting dedicated volunteers who can commit 2-25 hours per week. We are looking for volunteers with a wide array of skill sets, experiences, and interests. This includes:

  • Clerical and administrative tasks
  • Attendance at live events
  • Interfacing with MPs and Health Canada officials
  • Connecting with health food stores and natural health practitioners
  • Translating our English materials to other languages
  • Web development and maintenance
  • Graphic design
  • Writing and proofreading
  • Coding and web scraping
  • Social media content creation

It takes some unique skill sets to do what we do here at NHPPA. While we have a wide range of volunteer roles available, we do have a few specific positions we urgently need to fill:

Web Scraper

Our campaigns in 2024 require NHPPA to reach as many natural health product industry stakeholders as possible, including retailers, manufacturers, and practitioners. Through Q4 of 2023, groups of diligent volunteers have been manually gathering stakeholder contact information. We now need the help of web scrapers to reduce some of the manual steps currently limiting the speed of these projects.

We are on the lookout for volunteers with the following qualities:

  • Ability to retrieve publicly available data from a wide range of commercial websites using your preferred method such as advanced AI tools or opting to script the scraping and search for keywords (eg. “contact” or “@”).
  • Can go to assigned websites and scrape the specific data your supervisor requests (eg. contact email, phone number, physical address).
  • Can centralize scraped data into a spreadsheet using agreed-upon formatting and return it to your supervisor.
  • The ability to work quickly. The speed at which you deliver results is what is of importance to NHPPA.
  • The ability to work independently and within a team. Your immediate supervisor will not be technologically savvy in the areas of scripting and programming. (Your interview will be conducted by someone who is technologically savvy in the areas of programming and you will be asked a series of questions to ensure that you are proficient in the subject matter.

WordPress Website Developer

The primary avenue for NHPPA to disseminate information across the country is through our website. At this time, we require website development to support our 2024 campaign plans.

We are on the lookout for volunteers with the following qualities:

  • Familiarity with WordPress and DIVI builder,
  • Responsive web design skills,
  • Testing and debugging skills.
  • A passion for developing creative solutions,
  • The ability to work independently and within a team.

Wordpress Website Administrator

Maintaining a website is no simple task! In our world, things change quickly, and we need help to ensure our website stays up-to-date with the latest happenings in the fight to protect natural health products in Canada.

We are on the lookout for volunteers with the following qualities:

  • Familiarity with WordPress and DIVI builder.
  • Ability to make simple changes to web pages such inserting text or updating a link.
  • Ability to create and schedule blog posts with provided content and insert provided images.
  • Detail-oriented, careful, and well-organized.

Social Media Guru

Now, more than ever, we need passionate individuals to join our social media team and take our online presence to new heights.

We are on the lookout for volunteers with the following qualities:

  • A passion for sharing information with others.
  • Familiarity with the major social media platforms.
  • Creativity and willingness to learn new skills.
  • A love for writing and the ability to craft captions for social media posts.
  • Friendly and outgoing personality with a passion for building community.

Twitter (X) Aficionado

Our presence on social media has played a pivotal role in educating Canadians and igniting action.

We are on the lookout for volunteers with the following qualities:

  • A passion for sharing information with others.
  • You know Twitter (X) like the back of your hand.
  • The ability to craft compelling tweets.
  • A good sense of humour.

Campaign Assistant

Our campaigns are reaching across the country. We need more hands on deck so we can connect with even more stakeholders in the natural health product industry!

We are on the lookout for volunteers with the following qualities:

  • Experience in a related field such as non-profit campaigns, political campaigns, or marketing.
  • The ability to write, edit, and produce campaign materials in print, email, or other digital formats.
  • Strong organizational skills, and an attention to detail.
  • A working knowledge of Canva or video editing all considered an asset.
  • An attitude that “everything is figureoutable”.

Graphic Designer

Communicating effectively with our stakeholders is the most important thing we do at NHPPA. Graphic design is, at its core, a tool for effective communication.

We are on the lookout for volunteers with the following qualities:

  • A degree or diploma in graphic design.
  • Ability to design and layout of print and digital material using copy from our writers and following direction from the team.
  • A keen eye and an understanding of purposeful design.
  • A desire to make complex information easier to understand.
  • An ability to complete projects within an agreed upon timeframe.
