The core of your kit to become a Charter store or slinic is your petition station. The Petition for the Charter of Health Freedom is the second largest paper petition in Canadian History, it already has support from coast to coast to coast, and customers want to know where they can add their voice.

Place your petition pages on a clipboard near your cashout or reception area, where you can keep an eye on them. Don’t leave them unattended in the store or clinic, you will need to offer some guidance to signatories. Have some pens handy and ask every customer whether they have signed it before. Everyone who signs the Charter Petition becomes part of the pushback, if you speak with citizens who are incensed that you can no longer stock a product they wish to buy…make sure to tell them that signing is a way for them to have their voice heard.

Here are the steps for a valid petition page:

  • Do not write anything else on the page, the wording must not be altered in any way
  • Only one signature per person. The signature count must be from unique individuals to be valid
  • The person’s name in capitals must accompany their signature
  • A postal address consisting of at least city and postal code is vital to prove the signatory is a resident of Canada.

There is no deadline for the petition. Save a few pages and mail them to the address at the bottom of each page at your convenience. Once we reach our desired milestone in signatures, we will then present the petition to parliament as evidence that Canadians demand the Charter of Health Freedom be enacted as law.

Consider printing some extra petition pages and asking your customers to take one home so they can collect signatures from their networks.

This vital information handout is designed to explain how the Canadian government handles petitions, to answer some frequently asked questions and let your customers know how to keep the pages valid for presentation to Parliament.

Make sure that you can supply some information handouts to anyone who takes a petition away to collect signatures, they need to know how to keep it valid.

EDUCATION FOR RETAIL AND CLINIC OWNERS, PRACTITIONERS MANAGERS, AND STAFF

In order to fully understand the current level of threat caused by Health Canada’s proposed regulation changes, you must be informed. NHPPA President and constitutional lawyer, Shawn Buckley, completed a comprehensive review and analysis of Health Canada’s proposed changes and prepared a discussion paper, “The Repeal of the Natural Health Products Regulations”, clearly setting out the issues and what these changes mean for all Canadians.

Helen Long, President of the CHFA, responded to NHPPA’s Discussion by sending an email to all CHFA members implying that it was based on dated and inaccurate information. In response, Shawn Buckley wrote an opinion piece challenging Helen Long on a number of points and, in effect, compared the CHFA to surrealist comedy when it comes to drug regulation policy.
