Naturopathic Healing After Typhoid
Chantal Ann Dumas

Chantal Ann Dumas, a Quebec native now practicing from the Dominican Republic, shares her remarkable survival story. At 25, she contracted typhoid fever and endured two years of severe illness, weight loss, and failed antibiotic treatments. Sent home from hospital with no hope, she turned to a traditional herbal remedy, which unexpectedly restored her health. This experience inspired her to pursue naturopathic medicine, later expanding into homeopathy, mind-body practice, and acupuncture. With 28 years of practice, she has advised on public health projects in Cuba, worked with pharmacists, taught students, and become a strong voice for natural health freedom.
In this interview, Chantal recounts her journey from near death to a vibrant career as a naturopathic doctor. She describes her mother’s battle with cancer, cases from her clinic, and the obstacles faced by patients who want complementary care. Chantal stresses that true healing requires attention to diet, lifestyle, emotions, and environment—not just prescriptions. Her message to Ottawa is clear: protect Canadians’ freedom to access natural health products and support integrative approaches to healthcare.
