Cloned Meat Series — Episode 2: The Real Issues

In Episode 2 of our cloned meat series, Shawn Buckley exposes how Canadians are being steered away from the real questions surrounding cloned meat. While public attention is deliberately focused on labelling, the core issue is never addressed: should cloned meat be allowed into the food system at all?

This episode explains how regulatory debates are framed to manage public reaction rather than encourage genuine scrutiny. By redirecting concern toward secondary issues, decision-makers avoid confronting unresolved safety, ethical, and consent-based questions that Canadians deserve clear answers to.

We believe cloned meat will return as a major policy issue this year. The groundwork is already being laid, and once these decisions are embedded into regulation and the food supply, they become extremely difficult to reverse. That makes early public awareness and action critical.

Watch A Clip From The Show

In this episode, MP Calkins explains the intent behind Bill C-224, what it is designed to correct within the current regulatory framework, and the parliamentary realities surrounding its progress. The discussion addresses how existing regulations affect natural health products, small and medium-sized Canadian businesses, and consumer access, while providing valuable insight into how Parliament responds to constituent concerns on health freedom and proportional regulation.

Public engagement is critical to advancing Bill C-224. We encourage all supporters to take a few minutes to send letters to their Members of Parliament and add their voices in support of this important legislation.

Visit nhppa.org/bill224/ to take action, learn more about the bill, and help ensure Canadians continue to have access to the natural health products they rely on.
