NHPPA Talk Forum October Replay Available | MP Dean Allison
Shawn Buckley and MP Dean Allison on why the stories got heard and what supporters do next.
MP Dean Allison chaired the Allison Inquiry. Shawn Buckley called the witnesses. In this conversation they go back to the start: the Charter of Health Freedom drop-off on Parliament Hill, the Monday meeting that followed, and the months it took before other members of Parliament would even consider sitting in the room.
Dean is frank about the limits. Members of Parliament are flooded with issues. Many did not share the frame of reference supporters take for granted. Some did not believe they had permission to listen in public. Ten came anyway. Others watched later. A few have already asked Dean to help hold town halls.
The same day this was recorded, the Standing Committee on Health deleted every clause of Bill C-224. Shawn and Dean use that vote to show how a majority in committee decides what lives and what dies, and why getting a private member’s bill that far was still a result of supporter pressure.
