Natural health products are essential for millions of Canadians to maintain and improve their health, but Health Canada’s new regulations are putting the future of these trusted products at risk.
Health Canada plans to regulate natural health products in the same way as chemical drugs.
Already, Health Canada has reclassified natural health products as “therapeutic products” in sections 500-504 of Bill C-47, putting them in the same category as pharmaceutical drugs. This change brings in new fees, fines, and restrictions that many natural health product companies won’t be able to survive.
But there’s hope! Bill C-368, if passed, will repeal sections 500-504 of Bill C-47, and reinstate the previous regulations that governed natural health products.
On Thursday, November 28th, we made history! Thanks to immense pressure from Canadians, the Standing Committee on Health struck down damaging amendments and sent Bill C-368 back to the House of Commons. Now, we need to keep the pressure on MPs as Bill C-368 moves through the Report Stage and Third Reading, ultimately heading toward another vote.
