Access to Natural Health Products Goes Worldwide

Natural Health Product Access is a Worldwide Issue

The World Council for Health Canada has submitted an open letter to the president of Poland

The degredation of natural health products access is a worldwide issue now, with many organisations working together or independently to defend citizens’ right to choose natural health products.

For instance, Poland’s lower house has already passed “Lex Szarlatan,” “Charlatan Law” (or “Quack Law”). The bill now sits on the President’s desk. In its current form it threatens the livelihoods of thousands of naturopaths, herbalists and complementary therapists and restricts patients’ long-standing right to choose natural and integrative care.

Sold as a campaign against “charlatans” and “pseudo-medicine,” the legislation gives a single administrative office sweeping power to silence, fine and publicly brand practitioners whose methods fall outside today’s official consensus.

Friend of the NHPPA, World Council for Health Canada, has submitted an open letter to Poland’s president urging him to veto the Lex Szarlatan bill before it becomes law.

Sound familiar?

This is not an isolated fight. The same pattern of regulatory overreach is appearing in country after country. Access to natural health products and truthful health information would seem to be under pressure worldwide.

We must ensure our voices are heard. Send your letters. Call your MPs. Write a brief. Let them know that even during the summer break we are still using our natural health products, still need access to them, and still demand the right to truthful health information without censorship.

Look below for the concrete actions you can take right now to support natural health product access throughout the summer!

Write Letters and Phone Your MP to Support Bill C-224

Summer is no time to slow down. Members of Parliament are still in their ridings, and this is when constituent pressure lands hardest.

MP Blaine Calkins has told us that as few as 10 physical letters can force an MP to take action. Personal phone calls carry even more weight. Every letter and every call on Bill C-224 (and our other active files) shows MPs that Canadians are watching and will not accept restrictions on natural health products.

Take action now. Write your letters. Make the calls. Keep the pressure on through the summer months.

A phone call is one of the most effective tools available to you. It is direct, personal, and hard for an MP’s office to ignore.

When you call, clearly state your support for Bill C-224, The Charter of Health Freedoms, and for protecting access to natural health products. Mention that you are a constituent. Keep the message focused and firm.

Make the call. Combined with letters, these contacts move the needle. Summer is the moment to act.

The Charter of Health Petition Must Be Addressed by Parliament

The petition for the Charter of Health Freedom has been counted. At 157,057 signatures, it stands as the third-largest paper petition in Canadian history. This is a lot more than a suggestion: It is a clear demand from Canadians who refuse to accept further restrictions on their health freedom.

Parliament has a duty to address it. When MPs return from summer break, this petition must be front of mind. Silence is not an option. The government needs to hear that Canadians expect the Charter of Health Freedom to be passed into law.

Take action. Visit our Charter of Health Freedom action page and send your letters now. Keep the pressure on.
