The stated goal of Health Canada’s Self-Care Framework is to harmonize the regulations for natural health products with those designed for pharmaceutical drugs.
This change is expected to lead to:
- A loss of natural health products
- The closure of small- and medium-sized natural health product manufacturers
- The closure of small- and medium-sized natural health product retailers
- Fewer natural health practitioners
- More expensive natural health products
- Lower dose, single-ingredient, less-therapeutic products
