Cost Recovery Fees Will Result in a Loss of Some Natural Health Products in Canada

Health Canada’s decision to impose Cost Recovery fees on the natural health industry is raising serious concerns about the future availability and affordability of natural health products.

In response to widespread concerns, Health Canada hosted a closed-door consultation session with industry stakeholders to discuss the proposed Cost Recovery fees.

During this meeting, several manufacturers stated they would need to pull 40-90% of their products from Canadian shelves due to the financial burden imposed by these fees, while others mentioned they would be forced to cease operations in Canada entirely.

Despite this, Health Canada published their proposed fees in the Canada Gazette HALFWAY through the meeting.

This premature action highlights Health Canada’s complete disregard for the concerns of industry stakeholders and Canadian citizens.

We are working hard to safeguard the Canadian natural health industry from many angles. Right now, we encourage you to join our stakeholder networks — either citizen, retailer, practitioner, or manufacturer, depending on the corner of the natural health industry you come from.

Once you’ve joined our network, you’ll gain access to our Action Kit, which will help you engage YOUR networks, further building our collective momentum.
