There are over 1,000 candidates this election, resulting in 338 MPs. They must be a voice for the over 70% of Canadians who depend on natural health products to maintain their well-being. Losing access to natural health products means losing our freedom to choose how we manage our health.

Subject: Protect Traditional Healing Practices Before They’re Lost
Dear Candidate [Last Name],
Canada’s multicultural heritage includes healing traditions that have sustained communities for
centuries—from Traditional Chinese Medicine to Ayurveda, Indigenous healing practices to
homeopathy. These are not merely “alternative” treatments but vital cultural practices that
millions rely on for their well-being.
The freedom to choose how we care for our health is a fundamental right. Traditional medicines,
with their generations of safe use, are distinct from pharmaceutical drugs and deserve
regulations that respect their cultural significance and lower-risk nature. Unfortunately, Health
Canada’s Self-Care Framework threatens to erase these practices by making key products too
expensive, too difficult to license, or outright unavailable.
This issue transcends politics—it’s about preserving cultural heritage and health autonomy.
Without action, we risk:
• Losing centuries-old traditions as regulatory barriers erase ancestral knowledge.
• Denying cultural communities access to the remedies their families have trusted for
generations.
• Forcing practitioners to abandon their business as the products they rely on disappear.
• Reducing healthcare diversity in a country that prides itself on multiculturalism.
Health Canada’s Self-Care Framework encourages the growth and success of large
multinational corporations, while forcing smaller Canadian businesses to close.
I urge you to stand with Canadians and ensure that natural health products and traditional
healing modalities remain accessible and affordable.
I am calling on you to advocate for (1) The end of Health Canada’s Self-Care Framework,
and (2) the enactment of the Charter of Health Freedom [www.charterofhealthfreedom.org].
This is how you can safeguard the freedom of choice and well-being of all Canadians.
With the federal election approaching, I call on you to make this a priority issue. Health is
our greatest asset, and this deserves a place in the national conversation.
Thank you for your dedication to serving our communities, and I look forward to your leadership
on this critical issue.
Respectfully yours,
[Your Name]

Small and medium-sized Canadian natural health product companies will drown under Health Canada’s new compliance costs.
🚨 Manufacturers will be forced to discontinue products, raise prices, or shut down altogether.
🚨 Practitioners won’t have access to the products they rely on.
🚨 Health food stores will lose their customers.
🚨 And many Canadians will lose their jobs.
And remember, Health Canada’s policies don’t just affect businesses, they affect your health options.
Let’s make protecting access to natural health products a key election issue. Ask your candidate to Speak up for Natural Health.

In a country that prides itself on multiculturalism, why are we regulating traditional healing practices out of existence?
Canada’s cultural richness is reflected in its healing traditions, including Traditional Chinese Medicine, Ayurveda, Indigenous medicine, homeopathy and countless others. These are not fringe or “alternative” options, they are essential healing modalities for millions of Canadians, passed down through generations with deep cultural significance.
But today, these practices are under threat.
Health Canada’s Self-Care Framework Threatens To:
🚨 Make key products unaffordable or unavailable due to high licensing fees, regulatory barriers, and destructive fines.
🚨 Treat cultural remedies like pharmaceutical drugs, ignoring their low risk profile.
🚨 Force practitioners out of business, as the essential products that they rely on disappear.
🚨 Deny communities access to the traditional remedies their families have trusted for generations.
🚨 Reduce healthcare diversity in a country that prides itself on multiculturalism.
The freedom to choose how we care for our health is a fundamental right. Let’s make sure political candidates understand that access to natural health products and traditional medicines must be protected. With just days left before the election on April 28, now is the time to raise our voices even louder.

Small and medium-sized businesses are the backbone of Canada’s natural health industry. From local supplement manufacturers to health food stores and holistic practitioners, these businesses support our health, our communities, our economy, and our freedom of choice.
But under Health Canada’s Self-Care Framework, many of them won’t survive.
Massive new fees, devastating fines, and drug-style regulatory hurdles are driving small businesses out, while large corporations are positioned to take over.
This election, don’t let candidates ignore what’s happening. Ask them directly: “Why is Health Canada driving small businesses out of the natural health industry?”

By forcing natural health products into the same regulatory framework as pharmaceutical drugs, Health Canada is making it financially impossible for many businesses to survive. These measures will:
➡️ Drive up costs for manufacturers, retailers, and consumers.
➡️ Force many trusted products off the shelves.
➡️ Push small and medium-sized companies out of business.
➡️ Limit Canadians’ access to the safe, natural options they rely on.

Let’s face it: Most of us don’t pay attention to government policies until they start affecting our daily lives. But by the time we notice, it might be too late to stop the damage.
When it comes to natural health products, waiting for them to disappear from the shelves before taking action is a risk we can’t afford to take. Health Canada’s new regulations are making it harder and more expensive for small businesses to stay in the market. Trusted products that Canadians rely on could vanish… not because they’re unsafe, but because companies can’t meet the extreme costs and pharmaceutical-style requirements being forced on them.
It’s easier to protect our access to natural health products now than it will be to get them back later. Don’t wait until your favourite supplement is gone.

Millions of Canadians depend on natural health products such as vitamins, minerals, herbs, and homeopathic remedies, supported by centuries of traditional wisdom. No one should have their health and well-being compromised by Health Canada’s over-regulation.
This election, we must call on all political candidates to recognize that our health is our greatest asset. Protecting Canadians’ access to natural health products and traditional healing modalities must be a priority.
1️⃣ We need to return natural health products to being a functional food rather than a drug and 2️⃣ enact the Charter of Health Freedom to protect our access.

Oregano oil and garlic have been used for centuries to help fight infections… so why does Health Canada want to treat them like pharmaceutical drugs?
Under new regulations, if a company wants to make a health claim on their product, they’d have to meet the same approval standards as pharmaceutical drugs. But here’s the problem:
⚠️ Natural health products don’t have the safety concerns of pharmaceuticals.
💰 Small businesses can’t afford the costs of pharmaceutical-style approvals.
🚫 Unlike the pharmaceutical industry, natural health product companies can’t patent nature, so they don’t have decades of exclusive marketplace rights to recover their investment.

An estimated 200 million people worldwide and nearly 5 million Canadians use homeopathic remedies to assist them in their healing and to ward off health concerns.
Homeopathy is a natural, holistic approach to healing, rather than one that focuses on eliminating symptoms. Homeopathy addresses the individuals who are suffering. Two people may suffer from headaches but because no two people are alike, the homeopathic remedies provided for them may be completely different.
Hundreds of studies demonstrate the effectiveness of this gentle and affordable healing art. It is a system of healing that has been safely used for over 200 years, even by pregnant women and children. In some places in Europe, India, Central and South America, homeopathy is so valued that it is even part of the publicly-funded system of health care.
However, the story is quite different in Canada. Homeopathic remedies are at risk due to Health Canada’s fees, fines, and regulations that have far-reaching consequences for homeopaths, naturopaths, and other practitioners who use homeopathy, as well as manufacturers and consumers.
The availability of homeopathic remedies will likely decline as manufacturers may not be able to withstand these financial pressures, which will cause the prices of remedies to increase and many remedies to disappear altogether.
Let’s make protecting access to natural health products, including traditional practices like homeopathy, a priority in this election. Ask your candidate to Speak up for Natural Health.

Herbal teas have been used for centuries to promote well-being and even manage illness. Unfortunately, ancient wisdom is under threat.
As Health Canada pushes forward with their Self-Care Framework, a plan to treat natural health products like pharmaceutical drugs, Canadians will struggle to access many remedies that have worked for generations. Traditional practitioners, who rely on these products to help their clients, will also suffer, either losing access to them entirely or seeing them become unaffordable for many.
We must protect our right to choose the treatments that fit our needs and values, by:
1️⃣ Returning natural health products to being a functional food rather than a drug
2️⃣ Enacting the Charter of Health Freedom

Subject: Subject: Natural Health Should Be Canada’s Biggest Election Issue
Dear Editor [Last Name],
As someone who relies on natural health products to keep my family healthy, I’m deeply worried about Health Canada’s Self-Care Framework and its new cost recovery measures.
Like 82% of Canadians—34 million of us—I trust these safe, time-tested options to support my well-being. Yet, these changes threaten to pull them off the shelves by treating them like pharmaceutical drugs, which they’re not.
The impact is already hitting hard. Small manufacturers and practitioners, who’ve built their livelihoods on these products, face crushing fees that could drive them out of business. That means fewer choices for me and millions of others, all because of regulations that ignore the low-risk nature of natural health products.
My local health store owner told me she’s struggling to keep up, and I can’t imagine losing access to the remedies I depend on.
What’s baffling is the silence. Despite near-unanimous support for these products, I’ve yet to hear a candidate or read a news story addressing this. Health is our greatest asset, but this election, it’s like
no one knows what’s at stake. I’m urging readers to ask candidates to scrap the Self-Care Framework and back the Charter of Health Freedom.
Let’s keep our health choices alive—before it’s too late.
Sincerely,
[Your Name]

But, before we get into the “how to’s” of letter-writing…
NHPPA’s Pressure Your MP Campaign as maintained astounding power from June 2023 through to present. MPs have spent time reading and responding to at least tens of thousands of your letters. Let’s get to work and build on this incredible momentum.
Use the information below as a guide to craft effective letters that educate your MP.
If you haven’t already reviewed our materials, we have a few options available to help you understand the issues:
By utilizing the resources above, it will ensure you have a solid understanding of the issues, which will build your confidence to communicate with your MP!
Commit to yourself, and schedule time in your calendar, to draft a letter weekly or biweekly, depending on your availability.
Because we are asking you to write multiple letters, you do not need to include every issue within a single letter. It is okay for many of the letters you draft to have a different focus because there are many ways Health Canada’s actions in restricting natural health products will impact you as an individual Canadian citizen. Using this strategy can also help keep you inspired to continue letter-writing in the months to come.
We have provided form letters below, if you are unwilling or unable to draft a letter in your own words. However, if you have the capacity to write your own letter, in your own words, we strongly encourage you to do so. Personalized letters hold much more weight with our MPs.
Tell your MP what natural health products mean to you! You can include a connection or success story that you or a family member has had with natural health products. Personal stories are some of the most impactful communications we can share with our elected officials.
Print out a copy of the Discussion Paper on 2023 Health Canada Initiatives. We suggest stapling your letter to this Discussion Paper at least once. You may also want to highlight passages in the Discussion Paper that are particularly meaningful to you, or write notes in the margins about sections in the Discussion Paper that most apply to you. The physical size and weight of sending in a 36-page Discussion Paper to your MP causes an impact, as will the understanding they’re sure to gain as a result.
With subsequent letters, you can print out a copy of our 2-page Natural Health Products Crisis Summary and affix that to your letter.
It is important to send a letter to your MP at both their House of Commons address and their Constituency Office. You can find their Constituency Office here:
House of Commons Current Members of Parliament.
You don’t have to stop at sending letters to your Member of Parliament. You can also mail your letter to the Prime Minister, the Minister of Health, the Standing Committee on Health, or even all 338 MPs, if you’re willing.
This is a letter that you draft yourself. We have compiled a guide to help you write an effective letter, and have also compiled a list of two dozen potential writing points that you can use as inspiration.
