MP Leah Taylor Roy’s Response To A Constituent’s Letter

It’s becoming clear that supporters of Health Canada’s new regulations will rely upon the same surface-level talking points in an attempt to convince Canadians they have no reason to be concerned.

As Shawn Buckley loves to say, “if you want to know somebody’s true intention, you look at what they do, not what they say”

We urge you to take a step back and look at the bigger picture. Health Canada’s over-arching goal is to replace our current natural health product regulations with the Self-Care Framework.

  • Sections 500-504 of Bill C-47
  • Cost Recovery
  • Division 31 of Bill C-69

All of these ‘smaller’ initiatives threatening the natural health industry are bringing Health Canada closer to achieving their goal. This shift will lead to a substantial reduction in available natural health products, manufacturers, and retailers, and, most importantly, it will erode our freedom to choose how we manage our health.

Many individuals believe that Health Canada’s regulations only target unsafe products that are contaminated or misleading. This is a misconception. The reality is that a significant number of natural health products will vanish from the market simply because manufacturers can’t afford to keep them on the shelves.

Here’s what you need to remember:

  • Health Canada already possesses the necessary powers to address any safety concerns related to natural health products.
  • Imposing cost recovery fees on the natural health industry will inevitably lead to higher product prices, adding an extra burden on Canadians who rely on these products.
  • Canadians are capable of making their own health decisions.

As natural health products disappear, so does your freedom of choice in how you manage your health.

We encourage you to continue engaging with your local MP, a process made simple through NHPPA’s letter writing toolkit.
