NHPPA Show Returns Next Week w/ Josh Prefontaine

The NHPPA Show Returns Next Wednesday

Tune in live Wednesday, August 12th at 4 PM PT / 7 PM ET

Mark your calendars! Shawn and Teresa will be away from NHPPA HQ this month, so Jason Dahl and Eric Clegg are stepping in to take over (so be gentle with them)!

We are also welcoming back Josh Prefontaine, a TCM doctor in-training. Josh will be camping at the time in BC, so this is a first for us! He will share an update on his journey through traditional Chinese medicine and how he is using social media to educate and connect with Canadians who care about natural health. We might also get some camping tips!

What to expect this episode:

  • Campaign Update with Jason Dahl
  • The Feed with Eric Clegg
  • Your Questions from the live chat

Join us in the live chat to let us know how you feel about the latest developments.

Tune in live Wednesday, August 12 at 4 PM PT / 7 PM ET.

Replay will be available the following week.

New Health on the Hill | Health Canada Moves to Outlaw Compounding

Shawn Buckley’s latest Health on the Hill column for Vitality Magazine exposes a serious threat to natural health care in Canada.

Many practitioners still compound remedies for individual patients. Traditional Chinese Medicine practitioners, herbalists, homeopaths, and naturopaths have long mixed natural ingredients to meet a patient’s specific needs. The Natural Health Product Regulations were written to protect this practice. Parliament was clear: Health Canada does not regulate compounding by health care practitioners.

Yet Health Canada has now published a new policy designed to shut most compounding down.

The policy invents conditions that do not exist in the law. Practitioners would be blocked if a similar licensed product is already on the market. Strict labelling, testing, and “palatable flavoured” requirements would be forced on them. Single-herb remedies would no longer qualify. Health Canada inspectors, who are not trained in medicine, would gain the power to second-guess clinical decisions and review patient files.

None of these restrictions appears in the regulations. As a result, the policy is illegal. It also risks making compounded care uneconomic and unavailable for the Canadians who depend on it.

NHPPA has already submitted formal comments opposing the policy. Shawn’s full analysis lays out exactly how Health Canada is overreaching and what is at stake for practitioners and patients.

Campaign Updates

The Results of Your Hard Work

Supporters of natural health product freedom are delivering real results.

Over 20,000 e-letters have gone out during our campaigns for Bill C-224 and the Charter of Health Freedom. Nearly ten thousand of those were sent specifically in support of C-224.

Even more striking: 43 formal briefs have been submitted in support of Bill C-224. That volume puts us on par with some of the biggest and most publicized bills that have gone before committee this Parliament.

To top it off, those numbers do not include the physical letters, in-person meetings, and phone calls you have made. We may never know the full total, but Ottawa has felt the pressure. Personal communications like that are taken exponentially more heavily by MPs!

This is what action looks like when Canadians speak clearly and consistently. Decision-makers have to notice.

Jason Dahl will deliver more details on Campaign Update on next week’s NHPPA Show, Wednesday, August 12th, 4 PM PT / 7PM ET.

The Charter of Health is With Parliament

It’s up to you to inform yourself and Canadians what this means

The petition (Canada’s 3rd-largest ever) supporting the Charter of Health Freedom, that Shawn and the NHPPA hand-delivered after the nationwide Health Charter Tour last October, has been counted and it’s tabled in parliament.

In preparation, we ask you to get max-informed on what the Charter means to you and your fellow Canadians.

The government must respond to the petition. We anticpate this response and people will have questions. We should know the answers so that we can affect the coming debate.

We Are Moving Forward to Ensure Access to Natural Health Products. We Need Your Support.

NHPPA is proceeding with the work that matters: protecting access to natural health products, defending informed choice, and keeping Canadians informed.

To do that, we need funding. Your donations cover the real costs of running this organization, including critical website upgrades.

We are redesigning and strengthening our online presence. That includes building a secure backup system so our sites stay live even under censorship pressure. We are also developing NHPPA TV, a dedicated platform for our broadcast content so supporters can reliably access the information they need.

Any amount helps. Whether it is a one-time gift or ongoing support, every contribution keeps this independent, grassroots work alive.

We are building the infrastructure to deliver truthful health information and education when it is needed most.

Donate today and help us stay online, stay independent, and stay effective.
