Last Chance to Save Bill C-224!

Take Action: Last Chance for Bill C-224

A New Campaign to Save Bill C-224 in Report Stage

Bill C-224 Is Not Dead. We Need You To Act Now More Than Ever.

The fight continues. Liberal members of the Health Committee deleted every clause of Bill C-224, but that does not end the bill. It returns to the full House of Commons at report stage, where MP Blaine Calkins can move to reinsert the clauses the committee removed.

This is how the process works: After a committee reports a bill, the House of Commons gets its own chance to review and amend it. Members can propose motions to restore deleted clauses. Calkins has prepared those motions. If a majority of the House votes to restore the original text, the substance of the bill returns. Your earlier letters, briefs, and calls helped keep this bill alive long enough to reach this stage. That work still matters.

The Last Chance to Save Bill C-224 campaign is live today.

We need consistent action until December 3. Why send just one letter when you can send one every day? Don’t simply make one call. Make several!

Here are the steps you can take right now:

  1. Send an Electronic Letter
  2. Print and mail physical letters
  3. Call and speak to your MP and MP’s staff
  4. Meet with your MP
  5. Post on Social Media
  6. Send a handwritten note to your Liberal MP
  7. Repeat!

(And as a bonus: Tell people to tell people.)

That sounds like a lot, but don’t worry—you’ve got a month, and we’ve set it up so you can do one action every day!

Repetition will equal real results. Every message, every call, and every follow-up helps turn earlier support into the concrete votes we need to restore the original Bill C-224.

Go to https://nhppa.org/last-chance-for-224/ every day. Take one action. Then come back tomorrow and take another. Share the page. Keep the pressure on until the votes are cast.

This is the moment. Let’s do this.

Blaine Calkins to Hold C-224 Press Conference

Wednesday, November 4th, 4:30 PM Eastern Time

On Wednesday, November 4th at 4:30 PM ET, MP Blaine Calkins will hold a press conference to explain the fate of Bill C-224 and outline how he intends to fix it.

Bill C-224 had unanimous support at second reading. At the House of Commons Health Committee, every clause was deleted. A bill that would have protected access to natural health products was gutted.

Calkins will speak directly about the committee decision and the steps he plans to take next.

Watch the press conference live at nhppa.org/live at 4:30 PM ET, Wednesday, November 4th.

Homeopathy Network October Replay Is Now Available

A Case of Feeling Blocked, a Salmon Remedy, and Why Access Matters

What does a Chinook salmon have to do with chronic migraines, gallstones, and a sense of being trapped? In the latest NHPPA Homeopathy Network, homeopath Victor Cirone walks through a complex case in which a patient’s deepest sensations (a massive rock blocking her path, dread of the deep ocean, fertility struggles after IVF) pointed to a single remedy. The result was a clear illustration of how carefully listening to a patient’s own language can guide treatment in ways conventional approaches often miss.

The discussion also covered the regulatory side. Basil Ziv, registrar of the College of Homeopaths of Ontario, explained the high standards, public protection rules, and scope-of-practice requirements that govern homeopaths in the province. Anke Zimmermann, with 36 years of clinical experience, joined the conversation on how homeopathy continues to evolve as a system that addresses both physical and psychological patterns.

This matters because access is under pressure. Health Canada previously gazetted cost-recovery proposals that would have made it nearly impossible for suppliers to keep many homeopathic remedies on the market. Bill C-224, which would have moved natural health products (including homeopathics) out of the most restrictive drug category, was gutted at committee. The threat has not disappeared.

Watch the full October Homeopathy Network replay. Hear the cases, the remedy reasoning, and the regulatory context in the practitioners’ own words. Then share it with patients and colleagues who want to understand why protecting access to these remedies is essential.

If you are a homeopathic practitioner, visit the Homeopathy Network page on the NHPPA site to plug in and help educate your community.

The next Network call is on the third Thursday of November.

New Health On the Hill Article in Vitality Magazine

Bill C-224 Aims to Protect Our Access to NHPs – But Was Shot Down by Health Committee

On October 7, Liberal members of the Standing Committee on Health voted to gut Bill C-224. The bill would have removed natural health products from the most restrictive class of drugs under the Food and Drugs Act.

In his new Health On the Hill column for Vitality Magazine, Shawn Buckley lays out why this matters. Essential nutrients such as vitamin C and magnesium have been placed in the same category as the most dangerous drugs. Because they are classified as drugs, they are deemed unsafe and cannot be sold without a Health Canada licence. This approach treats products many people need to survive or thrive as illegal unless the government grants permission. Canadians have made their position clear through hundreds of thousands of letters, petitions, and postcards, yet the committee moved ahead with little understanding of the practical consequences.

Shawn argues the outcome exposes a larger problem. Health Canada and other ministries are setting the rules while most MPs lack the technical knowledge to evaluate what is before them. The result is policy driven by an unaccountable bureaucracy rather than by Parliament or the public. There is one remaining opportunity to restore the original bill at Report Stage on December 3, but only if enough political pressure is created.

Read the full article now to understand exactly what happened, why access to natural health products is at risk, and what action is still possible.
